Ans. When iron articles are left in the open, they are attacked by substances around them such as moisture, acids etc. and get coated with a reddish brown powder. This process is commonly known as rusting of iron.

Ans. When a metal is attacked by substances around it such as moisture, acids etc., it is said to corrode, and the process is called corrosion.

Three examples of corrosion are -

(i)   rusting of iron

        (ii)  tarnishing of silver

        (iii) copper corroision
