8. You have been provided with three test tubes. One of them contains distilled water and the other two contain an acidic solution and a basic solution, respectively. If you are given only red litmus paper, how will you identify the contents of each test tube?
Ans. We can identify the content in each of the test tubes using red litmus paper. This can be done by observing the change of colour of the red litmus paper when it is dipped in the solutions one by one seperately. The colour of the red litmus paper will not change in the test tubes having the acidic solution and distilled water. The solution which turns the red litmus paper blue is the basic solution. Now the solution which can change the blue litmus paper red is the acid solution.
The solution of the test tube which do not change the colour of the red or the blue litmus paper is distilled water.
